Dover Castle

Dover Castle – described as the ‘Key to England’ is a 12th Century castle in Dover (a half-hour drive from Ashford). It is the largest castle in England, and has been a significant defensive building throughout history.

The castle has plenty of attractions to offer:

  • Explore the Secret Wartime Tunnels – for 200 years, the wartime tunnels have been a hive of activity, keeping soldiers safe, and providing a secure command-base. There have been many famous photographs from the Second World War taken in the tunnels. Now, you have chance to walk through the tunnels.
  • The Great Tower will show you life in Henry II’s Royal Court. King Henry’s court includes richly furnished chambers, and even members of the royal court – yes, on certain dates, you’ll be able to see costumed characters from Henry’s Court.

As well as this, you’ll be able to walk around the beautiful grounds, and immerse yourself in the dramatic new visitor experience, Operation Dynamo: Rescue from Dunkirk.

Prices and more information are available at Dover Castle’s website.
